The Blue Flag Program is an exclusive eco-label award that works toward sustainable development at beaches/marinas through strict environmental and safety criteria.
The award is based on criteria within the following four categories:
- Environmental Management
- Environmental Education & Information
- Safety & Service
- Water Quality
The Blue Flag Program is owned and operated by the independent non-profit organization Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). FEE has member organizations in approximately 36 countries across Europe, South Africa, Morocco, New Zealand, Canada, and the Caribbean administrating the program on a national level.
Bahamas Reef Environment Education Foundation (BREEF) is the official representative for FEE in The Bahamas. The Blue Flag season in The Bahamas is year round provided that the standards are maintained in the marina.
