Catching Sailfish at the Cape by “Xstream”

A friend told me about Cape Marina, which was featured by Florida Sportsman. We normally take an annual trip to the Abacos, but decided to adventure a little further south, and glad we did. Me and three of my fishing buddies cruised from Marsh Harbor, Abacos, to Cape Eleuthera on Monday, May 25th, stopping to fish at Hole-In-The-Wall, on our way. We arrived late that afternoon and were pleased to have a deep water channel into the marina. The marina is deep and easy to access. The boat slips are all new and first class and we had no help finding our assigned slip.

We checked in and were totally satisfied with the accomodations. Our 2bd/3ba room was perfect and looked just like the photos on Powell Pointe Resort’s website. The room was clean, beautifully decorated and well equipped. After cleaning the fish, we enjoyed a laid back dinner at the resturant next door. The food was great and the service was excellent.

We stayed at Cape Eleuthera for 5 nights before returning to Marsh Harbor. I was totally pleased with everything at Cape Eleuthera, from the friendliness of the staff, the quality of the rooms, the new boatslips, great fishing, beautiful sunsets, to the price of feul ($3.25 per gallon vs. $4.79-3.65 in the Abacos). We fished and went diving for 5 days and had a great time. The waters are crystal clear and the fishing was great.

The atmosphere at Cape Eleuthera may not be for everyone. Life moves at a little different pace. There’s little to no nightlife and limited dining facilities. It’s a different and welcomed change from Marsh Harbor. We generally ate our own fish each night with a steak night to change the pace.

Powell Point Resort at Cape Eleuthera is a well kept secret, but I doubt it will be a secret for very long. I definitely plan to make it a regular stop on my annual vacation in the Bahamas. I want to enjoy it before it becomes too popular and crowded.
