Spearfishing when it blows

Monday, April 27th, 2009

The Dudley Roberts-Davis Harbour Marina tournament was this weekend with winds blowing up to 22 knots, keeping all but the largest sport fishing boats inside. However off the Cape on the Lee is always calm to the “Wall” drop off. Spearfishing in a small boat is fun and productive to 30′ near the walls edge a few feet away. These Keeper Nassau Groupers came out their hole only to end up on the Bahama Coffee Company Restaurant menu, where they cook your catch for you…of course ya gotta clean your own fish.  Rumor has it Cape Eleuthera Marina Residents “Ballistic” won the David Harbour tournment this year!  John Eikey from Palmetto Point and his team gave up the trophy from last year but did win the sportman category for fishing every day in the Blow in his 24′ boat with his team.

Dolphin Invade Cape Eleuthera!

Friday, April 17th, 2009

Neal Watson Jr. Reported this 42# Bull Dolphin caught 1 mile off shore the Cape Eleuthera Marina entry. He was aboard the Sea Angel Dive Boat and suddenly got swarmed by 40-50 good size dolphin near the Island School Fish Cage Dive site and he climbed aboard to throw a line to hook this Bull.  “all I could see was flashes of blue” he told the other fisherman at the cleaning tables.  This Bull served a few meals, including a domestic dispute under the cleaning table between two bull sharks. Onlookers took pictures from the mega yacht Steadfast
