Sandy’s Dolphin

Friday, February 29th, 2008

Sandy Tam, from Calgary Canada pulled two dolphin this past Saturday as she luckily found the frigate bird flying over 90′ of water as the weed gathered on an outbound tide just a mile out the inlet of the Cape Marina.

“Wow” she said as she tried to muscle in the leaping fish. It was such a pretty blue she almost wanted to let it go. Later she helped filet the fish at Schooner cay along with our spear catch and three big lobster. The lobsters were big enough to make crab legs out of the left overs. The water at the Cape is now 80 degrees which is unusually warm this time of year…which can only mean the dolphin are starting to show early. Tight lines!

Cape Eleuthera Institute Associates Edd Brooks and Aaron report massive never seen before schooling of local bone fish inside the Cape Eleuthera Marina basin. The school has been present for days now. These fish are being monitored by the institute as several of the fish have been caught and released with a tracking tag system. The giant school apparantly enjoys the marina flushing channel as they decide to come and go with the tide changes back to their favorite flats and creeks near the marina. The Cape Eleuthera Institute and Island School are the leaders in Bone Fish studies. Contact them directly for their most recent report on this facinating species and their habits.
